Frequently Asked Questions About Therapy

What to Know Before Getting Started

Practical answers about sessions, approach, and what working together looks like.

Getting Started

  • You can schedule a consultation through the website’s contact form or consultation request page. During the consultation we will briefly discuss what you are looking for in therapy and whether working together feels like a good fit.

  • The first session is focused on understanding what brings you to therapy and what you hope to work on. We will talk about your current concerns, relevant history, and the goals you would like to focus on moving forward.

  • Individual therapy sessions typically last 50 minutes.

  • Most clients begin with weekly sessions. As therapy progresses, some people choose to move to biweekly sessions depending on their needs and goals.

Therapy Approach

  • My approach integrates trauma-informed therapy, nervous system regulation, and insight-based therapy. I also provide EMDR therapy for clients who are working through unresolved trauma or experiences that continue to trigger stress responses.

  • I frequently work with adults experiencing:

    • anxiety and nervous system stress

    • trauma and unresolved past experiences

    • chronic stress or overthinking

    • medical trauma or chronic health experiences

    • chronic pain connected to stress responses

    • feeling responsible for holding everything together

Many clients are highly capable individuals who appear successful externally but feel internally overwhelmed or constantly on alert.

  • Nervous system regulation focuses on helping the body shift out of constant stress responses. When the nervous system is stuck in high alert, people may experience anxiety, tension, or emotional reactivity. Therapy helps the brain relearn how to return to a calmer state.

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain process distressing memories so they no longer trigger strong emotional or physical reactions. You can learn more on the EMDR therapy knowledge page.

  • Not necessarily. Therapy moves at a pace that feels manageable. Many trauma-focused approaches, including EMDR, allow processing without having to relive every detail of the experience.

Clients and Fit

  • I primarily work with adults who are thoughtful, capable, and often carry significant responsibility in their lives. Many clients come to therapy because their nervous system remains on high alert despite appearing successful or composed externally.

  • My current practice focuses on individual therapy for adults. Couples may be seen on a case by case basis.

  • No. Many people come to therapy because of anxiety, stress, relationship patterns, or emotional overwhelm. Trauma therapy may become relevant if past experiences continue to influence current reactions.

  • That is completely normal. A consultation can help determine whether therapy feels like a good next step.
